History

History 'end points'

At Kempsey, the following end points provide a core to the children's learning throughout the school.

  • Develop a broad chronological understanding of British history and ancient civilisations
  • Investigate the past through primary and secondary sources
  • Explore the impact of the legacy that people and events have had on the present day

At our school, we believe that history is a powerful gateway to understanding the past, appreciating the present, and shaping the future. Our intent is fourfold:

  1. Local History Emphasis: By exploring local history, children connect with their community’s heritage. They delve into significant local events, landmarks, and individuals, fostering a sense of identity and pride.

  2. History Skills Development: Our curriculum hones essential historical skills. Pupils learn to ask insightful questions, analyse evidence, weigh arguments, and think critically. These skills extend beyond history, enriching their overall learning journey.

  3. Linking Historical Knowledge: We encourage pupils to connect across different historical periods. Understanding how events interweave provides a broader perspective on human development and societal changes.

  4. The impact of historic events: Our curriculum highlights how historic events shape our present. Pupils explore how decisions made in the past influence our society, culture, and individual lives today.

Through our history curriculum, we ignite curiosity, nurture critical thinking, and empower pupils with a rich understanding of their heritage and the wider world
