To link with our new topic 'Space Travel', below are a selection of topic activities for you to choose. Start by choosing one activity and work through it, completing a little bit each day, until you've completed it. Then, you can move onto a new activity. You do not need to complete them all.
Activity 1 - The history of space travel
For this activity, we would like you to research space travel from the 'Vostok 1' rocket (which was the first rocket to carry a human into space), to the 'Dragon' rocket which launched on Saturday. You might like to create a time line and talk about some of the rockets in between these two, which have also carried astronauts. Below is a PowerPoint to help you but see if you can find out some more information too.
Activity 2 - Our Solar System
Find out about one of the planets in our solar system (but not Earth!) and create a fact file about them. You might like to find facts such as how big it is, what it's made of, how far it is from the sun, if it has any moons and any other interesting facts.
Activity 3 - your own moon landing
Watch the video below of the original moon landing video. Pretend that you have just landed on the moon (or another planet) and video what you would do when you first stepped out. What would it be like to walk on the moon? What would you see? What would you be going to explore?
Activity 4 - DT - Lunar Rover
The Lunar Rover was a space vehicle used to carry astronauts over the surface of the moon, a bit like a car. Your challenge is to create your own Lunar Rover using things around your home. It would need to be able to move over a dusty, bumpy surface. Find some examples below...
