As of this week, Topic work for home learning will include a combination of lessons from the Oak Academy as well as the resources we use in class with the Year 6 children who are returning from the 8th June. We will ensure that there are at least five topic lessons uploaded per week - if there is more you may pick and choose the content you would like to cover.
PSHE - Racism
You may be aware of the recent events that occurred in America, involving a black man called George Floyd who died after a white police officer kneeled on his neck for nearly nine minutes. George Floyd's killing, which was captured on video, has cause outrage and sparked a wave of protests in cities across the world.
In class, we will be going through the powerpoint uploaded below, stopping for discussions and questions throughout the lesson. As you play through the slideshow at home, think carefully about the questions that are presented. How do they make you feel? Have you learnt about this before? How can we educate future generations to be anti-racist? You may have questions of your own - see if you can speak to the adults at home and discuss this further.
Can you reproduce the art in the following images- watch the web page for examples from school
RE - What is life like inside a Buddhist monastery?
In this lesson, we will be learning about buddhist monks and nuns. We will learn about the different schools of buddhism and the journey that Buddhist lay people take to become a ‘full monk’. We will learn about daily life in a monastic community and we will compare life in a monastery to our own daily life. You will need a piece of paper, a pencil and your brain.
Science - What is static electricity?
In this lesson, we will be learning all about static electricity. We will learn how static charges occur and what happens when they are discharged. We will also be exploring how to create our own static charges with a balloon! If you have a balloon at home then you can use it for this lesson. If you don't then don't worry, you will still be able to watch the demonstrations and complete the lesson.
RE - Who is the Dalai Lama?
In this final lesson on Buddhism, we will begin learning about reincarnation, which is the Buddhist notion of rebirth. We will learn about karma and the belief that a being’s actions determine whether the rebirth is positive or negative. We will then go on to learn about the Dalai Lama, who is someone some Buddhists believe has reached enlightenment, but remains Earth to help others reach enlightenment or Nirvana. You will need a piece of paper, a pencil and your brain.
