Summer 1 - The Jolly Postman and Traditional Tales
This week we have been looking at the Traditional Tale ‘The Three Little Pigs’.
We have enjoyed discussing the different materials used to build each of the little Pig’s houses. The children justified why they would make their house out of which material and they have really enjoyed the repetition when retelling the story. In Maths, the children have practised how to double and halve amounts of objects and numbers. We looked at fairy tales on the IPads.
Next half term we will be starting our new topic 'Adventures at the Seaside'.
Have a good week everybody!
We have continued with our traditional tales topic with Cinderella and Little Red Riding Hood. Cinderella was a firm favourite but we didn't really like the wolf in Little Red Riding Hood very much!
We have matched upper and lower case letters, written about how the characters might be feeling, retold the story through writing and role play, identified and used the = sign, made repeated patterns and counted in a variety of ways.
This week our focus story was Hansel and Gretel and we completed the most fantastic writing we have ever done when we retold the story. We discussed how each of the characters I the story might be feeling at different points.
In our maths we threw the dice, gathered the blocks and added them together to find a total. We then recorded our work as a number sentence. Some of us had 3 or more dice and some of our dice had numbers up to 20 on them.
The week we returned to forest school. It had changed so much since before the Easter break and we found lots of spring flowers and buds. The weather was beautiful and we had a lot of fun climbing, fishing and exploring.
Welcome back to the Summer Term! We have made a great start on our new topic ‘The Jolly Postman and Traditional Tales’ starting off with the story of the Three Bears. In our writing we have thought about times when we have done something we shouldn’t and thought about the act of saying sorry. We also retold the story in our own words remembering our finger spaces, full stops and phonemes to help us spell correctly. In our maths we ordered according to size and number and identified 2D shapes.
On Friday we participated in a ‘Healthy Body Healthy Mind’ day. We had a guest visitor who made the teachers role model all the exercises first before the children had a go. There was balloon chasing, squats, planks, star jumps, jumping through hoops and balancing. A great time was had by all!
