Learning Journey

Welcome to Elm Class Learning Journal!

We have had a brilliant start to the new term and the children are settling really quickly into school routines and it has been a pleasure getting to know all of the children! Much of our focus this week has been getting to know each other and sharing information about ourselves and what we enjoy.

Normally, we would upload pictures of the children's learning from the week here. As soon as we have received all of the photograph permission slips we will begin to share photos of the children's learning. So, watch this space!

We have introduce our new topic (based on ‘Emotions and Change’) by reading the Colour Monster by Anna Llenas. The children have coloured their own colour monsters to show how they have been feeling this week. We hope this topic will support us in exploring the different emotions we experience on a daily basis in our everyday lives.

In English, we have enjoyed lots of class discussion and circle time talking about ourselves and our feelings. We have got to know each other really well and learnt a lot about our new friends. As a class we made a list of all the things we would like to do and achieve this year. Reception have been practising their pencil control and writing their names. Year 1 have been writing their own interesting sentences about what they would like to do and achieve this year. Learning to run really fast was a popular one!

In maths the children have practised counting objects and numbers up to 10, as well as counting backwards. Next week we will explore counting one more and one less, as well as how to compare groups of objects and numbers.

After an exciting first week back at school, we hope everyone has a lovely and relaxing weekend!

Best Wishes,

Miss Cassell, Mrs Judd and Miss Taylor
