This week we will be writing our own ‘create your own adventure story’. Lots of you will have read books like this before, we hope you enjoy the challenge!
Today we will start planning our story. First of all, you will need to look at the example plan attached below. In this plan, the story is set in the woods. As you follow the flow chart, you will notice that in the bold boxes are the ‘dilemmas’ (choices you make) and the options are directly below.
You will need to choose a setting for your story, for example:
- Journey on a ship
- The jungle
- A haunted house
- A beach
- An abandoned theme park
- On the Titanic
- In the Wild West
Before we complete our own planning sheets tomorrow, today you will need to mindmap ideas for your story. Things to think about:
- What does your setting look like
- What can you see/hear/smell/taste
- What dilemmas (choices) will you come across
- What possible endings are there (you will need lots!)
- How will you make it interesting for the reader.
Today, use your mind-map and the example planning sheet (Lost in the Woods) to complete your own planning sheet.
Use some scrap paper to make a ‘mock up’ of your book. This will help you to number the pages and recognise where each of your dilemmas ends. Watch the video below to see an example of a completed book to help you.
Remember – page 1 will be in introduction page, introducing the story and telling the reader what they need to do.
Today you can write up your story in neat and create your own book. Add as much detail as you can! Once you have finished, illustrate it if you wish. We would love to see your finished stories!
